Creative Catholic Library Essentials
Essential to every Creative Catholic Library is a Catholic Bible!
Our family is intentional about having daily Bible storytime, usually during breakfast time. We simply read through our children's storybook Bible in order (or sometimes my children pick the stories they really want to hear!). Once we have read it start to finish, we read from a different storybook Bible or start again. Children benefit from repeated reading, especially when the story being read is the story of salvation history!
Our current favorite Bibles include:
- The Bible by Tony Wolf
- Tomie dePaola's Book of Bible Stories
(These next three require some editing for the Last Supper because they are not Catholic Bibles)
- Read and Learn Bible
- The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones
- My First Bible Stories by Rachel Moss & Catherine Allison
As our children get older, I plan to continue reading my children the Great Adventure Bible series.
For more recommendations regarding children's storybook Bibles, I invite you to head over to Into the Deep's blog for a great overview of how to select Catholic children's Bibles for your family.
It is also helpful to have a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church on hand as a reference. I prefer to read from the beautiful Ascension Press edition, and I also love reading from the Youth Catechism, known as the YouCat.
The Word of God is the foundation of every Creative Catholic Library, so be sure to keep your Bibles in a place set apart and readily available for daily reading!
