The Joy of Creative Writing
Today, I was reflecting on how much I love sitting in my "writing" corner. I love how special it feels, the birds chirping outside my window, and the gentle light that brightens the space. And then I thought of the classrooms I used to teach in–the ones I tried to fill with color and light so that they would feel a little more comfortable, a little more inspiring.
Creative writing is a joy when the mood is relaxed, when the space inspires. What a gift it is when I get to write in the great outdoors or at my favorite coffee shop!
As a teacher, I haven't always been able to provide a beautiful, inspiring place to write (once there wasn't even air conditioning!), but I've made it a point to get beautiful notebooks and special pencils or pens into the hands of my students to brighten up the experience. Children especially love it when those notebook covers, those "writer's notebook" covers, are filled with pictures of their favorite people, places, and things!
If this is your first time using a writer's notebook, or even if you've done it a dozen times before, I encourage you to check out my Mind Mansion Pre-Writing Workshop. The workshop will engage your children/students in meaningful pre-writing that is centered around their own memories and special interests, all tied to the theme of home!
Creative writing should be a joy. That's why I've designed Creative Café–to bring the joy back into the experience, to make it memorable, and to inspire young people to use their creativity to give glory to God!
If you haven't checked out my Creative Café workshops, I highly encourage you to pick one and give it a try! You can read about the Basics here :)
