Creative Café: My Garden

Today I hosted a Creative Café mini-workshop at home using the "My Garden Quick-Draw Exercise " (this is a freebie!)

Today's line-up:
☕️ "Milky lattes," apple slices, and M&M's- find our recipe for the lattes here and the menu we use here.

Here is a quick breakdown of the workshop, using the Creative Café Framework:

Contemplate: We began by reading the book My Garden by Kevin Henkes.

Converse, Connect, & Create: When we started the quick-draw exercise, I found it helpful to encourage each child to think of a unique "seed," and then we brainstormed aloud what the seed could grow into. Our ideas seemed to have a beach theme (seashells and beach balls that grew into fountains and sandcastles), probably because we just returned from a week at the beach!

It was fun to encourage their imaginations! My son ended up going through 4 or 5 copies of the quick-draw exercise. He really enjoyed coming up with different ideas.

Collect & Celebrate: At the end, we shared our quick-draws with each other and celebrated each child's unique ideas. We cut and pasted the exercise into our writer's notebooks, finished up our snacks and drinks, and ended with a Glory Be! We discussed how our creativity is a gift from God and that we should always give the glory back to Him.
