The Night the Saints Saved Christmas

Once a month, I select a Catholic picture book that we will read together on the first Sunday of the month. This book then becomes part of our Creative Catholic read-aloud basket. While these books can be selected at any time as read-alouds, we make a special effort to read our religious picture books during our Sunday read-aloud time.

This month, our read-aloud is The Night the Saints Saved Christmas by Gracie Jagla.

What I love most about this book is the way it introduces various details about the lives of the saints as it tells the story of a night when St. Nicholas was too sick to deliver presents. It is a clever story that helps children fall in love with the saints. I love how at the end all of the saints gather to celebrate in Bethlehem, bringing the story back to the real focus—Jesus' birth.

Here are a few simple ways I'm extending our reading this month; I hope you will join us!
