Hymn of the Week

A few years ago, I started selecting a hymn that we would listen to a few times throughout the week to learn the words (mostly during our time in the car). Pretty quickly, this became known as our "hymn of the week." As the weeks have gone on, our "hymns" have become more praise and worship music than true hymns, but I think the value remains the same–my children are learning Scripture and messages about faith in a fun and engaging way.

As we have looked for new hymns, we've discovered various artists who put Scripture to music for children. The Slugs and Bugs albums have become a family favorite. The beauty of listening to a song that uses Scripture is that you can begin with the song, for example, "Deuteronomy 6:5" by Randall Goodgame, and then you can take time later in the week to pick up your Bible to read the same exact words to your children. Using Scripture and music together is a beautiful way to teach our little ones to memorize important passages from the Bible!

I encourage you to consider incorporating Biblical music into your weekly routine. There is absolutely nothing cuter than your children singing Scripture, let me tell you!
