Tea Time

When I took a deep dive into homeschooling a few years ago, I found many practices that I knew I would want to incorporate into our schedule, whether or not we decided to homeschool. One of these practices is Tea Time!

Once a week, I host an afternoon tea time. I bake a sweet treat, and we pull out our china to fill cups of tea. To begin, we sing the Doxology and then recite Charlotte Mason's student motto: I am. I can. I ought. I will. You can download a pretty printable in a variety of colors for free here! Then, while my children enjoy tea and a baked treat, I read aloud to them from a few of our Tea Time selections.

After prayer and the Charlotte Mason motto, we discuss an etiquette tip, followed by a few poems, and then we finish up our time with a story (usually a fable or fairy tale!). When I'm really on top of things, we also recite the Scripture verse we are trying to memorize.

In our living room, I keep a basket of our favorite Tea Time selections. Sometimes I plan what I'll read, and other days we just grab a book and go from there!

You can find our family's favorite Tea Time read-aloud selections here!
