The Feast of Saint John Paul II
This week for Tea Time, we enjoyed gluten-free pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and warm apple cider as we celebrated the feast day of Saint Pope John Paul II.
The cookies turned out amazing (which is not always the case with gluten-free). I used this recipe, swapping out one cup of the flour for almond flour.
To celebrate JPII's feast day, we read a poem from Meghan Bausch's Saintly Rhyme for Modern Times, and then we read Fabiola Garza's The Story of Saint John Paul II: A Boy Who Became Pope. The Boy Who Became Pope is a lengthy read, so it didn't hold my youngest's attention, but my 5- and 7-year-olds were fascinated to learn about JPII. We concluded with a simple prayer asking for JPII's intercession!
Reading aloud is one of the easiest ways to teach your children about the saints and immerse them in their heroic stories of faith!
