Jesus and the Miracle of the Mass

Once a month, I select a Catholic picture book that we will read together on Sunday evenings. I read the same book two weeks in a row (repeated reading builds comprehension), and then on the other two Sundays, I let my children pick a book from our previous Sunday read-alouds. This month, our read-aloud is Jesus and the Miracle of the Mass.

What I love most about this book is how it conveys the Miracle of the Mass as the personal invitation it is to enter into a relationship with Jesus. I think it can be easy to forget what an incredible miracle is happening every Sunday when we attend Mass, so this book is a perfect way to remind our children (and ourselves!) of what a gift it is to receive Jesus, body and blood, soul and divinity.

This book would make a perfect First Communion gift! For older children, you can pair this read-aloud with our "Body and Blood" writer's notebook collectable or the Miracle of the Mass collectable! We encourage you to copy the quotes by hand and consider using the small images to decorate your notebook page. Perhaps the images will inspire you to sketch your own!

Here are a few simple ways I'm extending our reading this month; I hope you will join us!
