It's Not About the Coffee

In 2023, when I came up with the name for this blog, I was ill. My body had long suffered the effects of MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome), and I was entering into my first battle with psychosis. At the time, I couldn’t tolerate a drop of coffee, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony.

Three years have passed, along with one more episode of psychosis and two more MCAS flare-ups, but here I am on the other side, or at least I hope. Losing my grip on reality and suffering from its effects has forced me to look at the world with a fresh perspective. Many of the things that used to matter no longer do.

My point in sharing this is that this blog is not about the picture-perfect, coffee-in-hand, illusion of life. When you read this blog, if things look picture perfect, I can promise you they are not; I just happen to love photography and graphic design.

This blog is about our children, inspiring them and arming them with the tools they will need to grow up in a world that wants to convince them that looks matter more than heart. That status matters more than joy. That material goods matter more than charity and peace of mind. And for all its worth, I don’t want my children to grow up feeling lost beneath the pressure the world puts on them. When my children face their own tough battles, I want them to be grounded in what truly matters.

As mothers and teachers, nurturing our children’s souls is what matters. Speaking life and hope into our families and communities is what matters. Finding what brings us joy and ignites our souls matters.

If crafting and tea time are not your thing, don’t stress about it. Instead, focus on finding what brings you joy and find a special way to bring that spark of joy to your children. Our children will be nourished by witnessing us using the gifts God has given us, whether it be hospitality or baking, storytelling or sports. We are an unrepeatable expression of God’s love. Let us never forget that.

In hope,
Stacey
