The Feast of St. Lucy

Celebrating feast days is something our family has slowly been introducing into our traditions over the last few years. A super simple one we started with was St. Lucy's feast day. We made a crown of candles that can be used year after year, and we have kept it simple by buying pre-made cinnamon rolls for the girls to pass out (our tradition is to make homemade ones for Christmas morning). I love celebrating St. Lucy as a light in the darkness, especially as winter approaches.

The book we use to introduce St. Lucia Day is Lucia Morning in Sweden by Ewa Rydäker. If I'm being perfectly honest, I don't believe it's the most eloquently written book in the world, but it does convey the traditions of St. Lucia Day. We also read a short biography about St. Lucy from our Picture Book of Saints. When my children are older, there is a "spooky" story of St. Lucy's life by Spirit Juice Kids that I plan to show them.

As with celebrating any feast day, the goal is to bring the lives of the saints to life for our children. If reading about St. Lucy and enjoying breakfast while lighting a few candles is all you can do, I have no doubt that your children will still form vivid memories of St. Lucy bringing Christ's light to the world.
