God the Father and the Best Day Ever

This month, our featured Catholic read-aloud is God the Father and the Best Day Ever by Gracie Jagla.

What I love most about this book is the perspective it presents about the Greatest Love Story of All Time (God the Father's perspective, of course). I chose this book for November, even though it might technically be viewed as an Easter story, because it is a great reminder to listeners to be grateful for the greatest blessing of all—the chance to share eternal life with God in Heaven. Every good blessing comes from God the Father, so November is the perfect time to read this book!

The artwork in this story is not traditional, but I think this can allow for a great discussion about what each reader imagines God to look like. My daughter immediately noticed God's ponytail and responded strongly that God doesn't look like that. I asked her what she thought God might look like, and we had an interesting conversation in which she shared that He most certainly shines like gold!

I've created a "God the Good Father" creative writing unit that is best for children ages 10-14 (but it is designed as a whole family study with adaptations for younger children). You can download it at my shop!
