God the Father and the Best Day Ever

Once a month, I select a Catholic picture book that we will read together on Sunday evenings. I read the same book two weeks in a row (repeated reading builds comprehension), and then on the other two Sundays, I let my children pick a book from our previous Sunday read-alouds. This month, our read-aloud is God the Father and the Best Day Ever by Gracie Jagla.

What I love most about this book is how simply it shares the Greatest Love Story of All Time. I chose this book for November, even though it is technically an Easter story, because it is a great reminder to listeners to be grateful for the greatest blessing of all—the chance to share eternal life with God in Heaven. Every good blessing comes from God the Father, so November is the perfect time to read this book!

The artwork in this story is not traditional, but I think this can allow for a great discussion about what each reader imagines God to look like. If you have older listeners, I recommend using our Creative CafĂ© workshop "God Our Good Father" to inspire your young creatives to take their ideas to writing!

Here are a few simple ways I'm extending our reading this month; I hope you will join us!
