Creative Menus

As a middle school teacher, I learned how powerful it could be to give students engaging choices for creative writing. Every "menu" or open-ended prompt that I gave my students allowed them to make the piece their own. These days, I've added a "Create Your Own Prompt" option (related to the theme) to my creative menus, as there are always a few students who are ready to embark on their own writing adventures.
Our shop features Creative Café workshops designed for students of all ages. These writing workshops are centered around creative menus that offer students a variety of creative prompts tied to a theme. Our creative menus also offer a "Spark Your Creativity" activity that is perfect as a warm-up and can be completed in the writer's notebook.
Creative menus are fabulous for students who don't know what to write about, but they are equally as good for creative writers ready for a bit of a challenge. Creative menus are great for independent work and make it easier to make time to conference with writers.
What I love most about writing around a theme is experiencing the diversity of thought that comes out of each workshop. I love seeing how the same prompts can be answered in so many unique and interesting ways.
I hope you will check out one of our creative writing workshops, which all feature a creative menu. I think you will find them to be engaging and a fun way to spark creativity and encourage the growth of your writers!
