Imagine the good that would come about if every child had the opportunity to read dozens of good Catholic books!
I believe that our children benefit not only from reading a wide variety of Catholic books but also from reading novels and living books that help us contemplate truth and inspire us to lead lives of heroic virtue.
Building this type of children's library takes intentionality and attentiveness to the interests and needs of the children we teach. Carefully curating books for our library is a worthy endeavor—one that will nourish the hearts, minds, and souls of our children for years to come.
It is a great gift to families that modern, creative Catholics are producing beautifully illustrated, engaging stories to inspire young people to grow in faith and love for the Lord. The reality, however, is that most public libraries do not carry these books, and the average price to purchase one of these picture books is upwards of $25. Many families desire to have access to these books, but cannot justify spending hundreds of dollars to read a wide variety of them.
In response to this lack of access to great faith-based books, I've created a free book guide with over 90 high-quality books that can be used in conjunction with my "Grow Our Library" pages to start a movement at your school, parish, or local co-op to grow your lending library!
Or simply use the book guide to find great books for your own home library!
One way I am combating the difficulty of navigating today's library is by creating my own Scholastic Reader-style book guides that my kids can peruse to choose books they are interested in checking out from the library. If they are interested in a book, I either put it on hold or help them locate it at the library! I'm also using the book guides to allow them, from time to time, to choose a book or two that they would like to collect in their personal library. You can download my book guides here for free!
